Summary
Escapo is a road trip planning app for France. It works without an account: you enter a starting address, a destination address and a date, and the app calculates a day-by-day itinerary. No trip data is saved between app launches. Escapo uses an anonymous usage analytics tool (PostHog) to improve the app, described below.
1. Who we are
Escapo is an iOS app distributed by an independent developer, Alexandre Paul. Contact: alexandre-paul@outlook.com.
2. Data you enter
The starting and destination addresses, the departure date and any manually added stops are used only for the duration of your current session, to compute your itinerary. They are never saved locally or sent to a developer server: this information disappears when you close the app.
3. Location
Escapo does not request access to your location. Starting and destination addresses are entered manually, with address autocomplete assistance provided by Apple (via MapKit, processed by Apple under its own privacy policy).
4. Third-party services used to build your itinerary
To build your itinerary, Escapo queries several public services at calculation time, using only the geographic coordinates required (never your identity):
| Service | Data sent | Purpose |
|---|---|---|
| Apple MapKit | Addresses entered, route coordinates | Route calculation and address autocomplete |
| data.economie.gouv.fr | Route coordinates | Fuel prices along the route |
| OpenStreetMap / Overpass | Route coordinates | Rest areas, campsites, dump stations, points of interest |
| Wikipedia / Wikidata | Point-of-interest name | Photo and description of a place |
| data.gouv.fr | Route coordinates (bundled local data) | Number of fixed speed cameras on the route |
| Bison Futé | Departure date (bundled local data) | Traffic alerts for the trip period |
| Open-Meteo | Route coordinates | Daily weather forecast for the trip |
These services are queried read-only to display a result; none of these requests are linked to your identity by Escapo.
5. Analytics (PostHog)
Escapo uses PostHog, hosted in Europe, to anonymously measure app usage (for example: a trip was planned, a detour was added). These events contain no address, no name, no personally identifiable data. You can uninstall the app at any time to stop this measurement.
6. System permissions
Escapo requests no system permissions (no location, no notifications, no camera, no contacts).
7. Your rights (GDPR)
Since Escapo does not retain any personally identifiable data after the app is closed, there is no user profile to access, correct or delete. For questions about anonymous analytics, contact alexandre-paul@outlook.com.
8. Changes
This policy may be updated; the date at the top of the page reflects the latest change.
