1. Summary

Calio is a nutrition tracking app. It does not require an account or login: no email address, no password is collected. Your food journal is stored locally on your device. To estimate calories, the meal descriptions and photos you submit are sent to a third-party AI service (Google Gemini) for the duration of the request, as detailed below.

2. Data Collected

Food Journal

Your entries (food names, calories, macronutrients, goals, history) are stored exclusively on your device. They are never associated with a user account, since Calio has no account system. Deleting the app permanently erases this local data.

Meal Descriptions and Photos Sent for Analysis

When you describe a meal (text, voice dictation transcribed to text, or a photo), that description or photo is sent to a server function (hosted on Supabase) which queries the Google Gemini API (with associated Google Search) to estimate nutritional values. Specifically:

The text or image you submit passes through our servers and Google's servers for the duration of processing the request.
We do not retain a copy of your descriptions or photos on our servers beyond processing the request.
Processing by Google Gemini is subject to Google's privacy policy: https://policies.google.com/privacy
Do not include sensitive information unnecessary for the nutritional estimate (e.g., detailed medical information) in the description field.

Health Data (Optional)

If you enable Apple Health (HealthKit) sync in settings, Calio writes your calories and meals to Apple's Health app. This feature is off by default, requires your explicit authorization, and can be revoked at any time from iOS Settings > Privacy & Security > Health. This data remains managed by Apple's HealthKit system and is never transmitted to our servers or to Google.

3. Permissions

The app requests, only at your initiative, the following permissions:

Camera / Photos: to analyze a meal photo.
Microphone / Speech Recognition: to dictate meal descriptions.
Apple Health (HealthKit): to optionally log your calories in the Health app.

You can revoke each permission at any time from iOS Settings.

Calio does not integrate any advertising tracker, no third-party analytics SDK at this time, and does not sell or share your data for advertising purposes.

5. Subscription and Payment

Calio operates via subscription (Calio Premium, 9.99 EUR/month after a 3-day free trial). Payment is processed entirely by Apple via the App Store: the developer never receives, sees, or stores your payment card information. 6. Your Rights (GDPR)

Since Calio has no user account system and your food journal is stored only on your device, we hold no server-side user database. You exercise your rights of access, rectification, and erasure directly by editing or deleting your entries in the app, or by uninstalling the app (which erases all local data).

Regarding descriptions and photos sent to Google Gemini for analysis: this data is processed transiently by Google in accordance with its own privacy policy. For any questions about this third-party processing, you may contact us (see Section 9) or consult Google's policy directly.

The legal basis for processing is contract performance (providing the nutritional estimation service you request) and, for Health sync, your explicit consent.

7. Disclaimer

Calio is not a medical device and does not provide professional dietary advice. Calorie and nutritional estimates are AI-generated from your description and may be inaccurate. They do not replace the advice of a healthcare professional or dietitian, particularly in cases of a medical condition (diabetes, eating disorder, allergy).

The app is not intended for children under 13.
