1. Who we are

Mekix (the "App") is an iOS car maintenance logbook published by an independent developer, Alexandre Paul. The App is distributed on the App Store under the name Mekix.

2. Summary

  • Mekix works without an account. Your vehicles, services, mileage, costs, photos, documents and reminders are stored on your device.
  • If you turn on iCloud backup (a feature included in the Mekix+ subscription), this data is also synced to your own iCloud account, operated by Apple.
  • The App sends anonymous usage statistics (PostHog) to help us improve it. The content of your logbook (vehicle names, plate, notes, amounts, photos, documents) is never sent.
  • No ads, no cross-app advertising tracking, no data sale.

3. Data stored on your device

The information you enter (vehicles, service events, mileage, costs, notes, invoice photos, documents, reminders) is stored in the App's private storage on your iPhone or iPad. The developer has no access to it.

Photos imported from your library or taken with the camera stay in that same storage. They only leave your device if you export a PDF or your data yourself with the "Share" feature.

4. iCloud backup (optional, included in Mekix+)

If you turn on iCloud backup in the App settings, your data is synced through your own Apple iCloud account (CloudKit, private database) across your devices. This sync is operated by Apple and governed by Apple's privacy policy. The Mekix developer has no access to this data.

iCloud backup is off by default. You can turn it off at any time in Settings > iCloud backup.

5. Anonymous usage statistics (PostHog)

To understand how the App is used and improve it, Mekix sends usage events to PostHog (servers located in the European Union). Examples: screen viewed, vehicle added, service added (with its type, for example "oil change"), reminder created, PDF report generated, subscription screen shown, subscription purchased or restored.

These events come with technical information: a random identifier specific to the App (reset if you delete it), device model, iOS version, language, App version, App Store environment (production or test). PostHog derives an approximate country or region from the connection's IP address.

This data is never linked to your name, email, Apple ID or any other personal identifier, and is not used for advertising.

Never sent: your vehicles' name and model, plate, VIN, mileage, amounts, notes, photos and documents.

6. Optional in-app feedback

The App may ask you a short satisfaction question. If you answer, your answer and any comment you choose to write are sent to PostHog along with the usage statistics above. Do not include personal information. You can close the question without answering.

7. Purchases and Mekix+ subscription

Purchases are processed exclusively by Apple through the App Store. The developer never receives your payment information. The App checks with Apple (StoreKit) whether a subscription or a former purchase is active, and sends PostHog an event stating that a purchase happened (product, displayed price, currency), without any payment data.

8. Apple attribution (AdServices)

On first launch, the App asks Apple, through the AdServices system framework, for an attribution token that tells whether the install came from an Apple Search Ads ad. This token is sent to Apple only. It does not contain the advertising identifier (IDFA), requires no tracking permission, and the response is neither stored nor shared with any third party.

9. Notifications

If you allow them, the App schedules local notifications (inspection, oil change, insurance, mileage check, etc.). They are generated on your device by iOS. No data is sent to a server to deliver them.

10. Tracking and advertising

Mekix contains no ads and does not track you across other companies' apps or websites. The NSPrivacyTracking value in the App's privacy manifest is false.

11. Retention

Your logbook data stays on your device (and in your iCloud if enabled) until you delete it. Usage statistics are kept by PostHog for a limited period, 12 months at most.

12. Your rights (GDPR)

  • View and edit your data: it is fully visible and editable in the App.
  • Export your data: Settings > Export all my data (JSON file).
  • Delete your data: uninstall the App to remove local data. If you use iCloud, also remove it via iPhone Settings > [your name] > iCloud > Manage Storage > Mekix.
  • Usage statistics: they are not linked to your identity. For any request (access, erasure, objection), email the address below with your approximate install date and device model.

You may also lodge a complaint with your data protection authority (in France, the CNIL: www.cnil.fr).

13. Minors

The App is not specifically intended for minors and does not knowingly collect data about them.

14. Changes to this policy

Any material change will be reflected in the date at the top of this document and, where appropriate, mentioned in the App Store release notes.
