1. Acceptance of terms

By downloading, installing or using the Licko application (the "App"), you accept these Terms of Use. If you do not agree, do not use the App.

2. Service description

Licko is an iOS jazz improvisation trainer. It generates jazz phrases ("licks") over 9 harmonic progressions, in all 12 keys, playable with a backing track (bass, drums, piano) synthesized on the device. It offers phrase transformations, a notebook of saved licks with 12-key progress tracking, and export to MIDI, PDF and MusicXML. No account is required. Your data stays on your device; the App sends anonymous usage metrics, described in the privacy policy.

3. License

Alexandre Paul grants you a personal, non-exclusive, non-transferable and revocable license to use the App on iOS devices you own or control, in accordance with App Store usage rules. This license is also subject to Apple's standard end-user license agreement: https://www.apple.com/legal/internet-services/itunes/dev/stdeula/

4. Free content and subscription (Licko Premium)

The App is free to use: unlimited phrase generation on the major ii-V-I progression, in all 12 keys, with most transformations and one saved lick in the notebook.

Licko Premium is an auto-renewable subscription, offered monthly or yearly, that unlocks the 8 other harmonic progressions (including minor ii-V-i, altered dominant, turnaround, rhythm changes, blues ending, modal vamps), the "on another progression" transformation, an unlimited notebook and export (MIDI, PDF, MusicXML).

  • The exact price, in your own currency, is shown in the App and on the App Store before any purchase.
  • No free trial is offered.
  • Payment is charged to your Apple Account when you confirm the purchase and at each renewal.
  • The subscription renews automatically unless cancelled at least 24 hours before the end of the current period.
  • You can manage or cancel the subscription at any time in your Apple Account settings.
  • Purchases can be restored from the App, including after a device change.
  • Purchases are handled exclusively by Apple's App Store under its own terms. Refund requests are handled by Apple.

5. Acceptable use

You agree not to:

  • Use the App for any illegal or fraudulent purpose;
  • Decompile, disassemble or reverse-engineer the App;
  • Circumvent technical protections, including those of the subscription.

6. Generated content, not a teacher

The phrases Licko offers are procedurally generated from harmonic and rhythmic rules. Licko is a practice tool: it does not replace a music teacher or structured musical training.

7. Intellectual property

The App, its code, its generation engine, its name and its visual identity belong to Alexandre Paul. Files you export (MIDI, PDF, MusicXML) belong to you and may be freely used for your practice.

The App includes third-party components, under their own licenses:

  • GeneralUser GS sound bank, by S. Christian Collins (free license);
  • VexFlow notation engine (MIT License);
  • Bravura music font (SIL Open Font License).

8. No warranty

The App is provided "as is" and "as available", without any express or implied warranty, including fitness for a particular purpose or absence of errors.

9. Limitation of liability

To the extent permitted by applicable law, Alexandre Paul's liability is limited to the amount actually paid for the App. Alexandre Paul shall not be liable for any indirect damages arising from your use of, or inability to use, the App.

10. Personal data

Data handling is described in the Licko Privacy Policy. Your licks, settings and progress are stored on your device, with no iCloud sync. The App sends anonymous usage metrics to PostHog (hosted in the European Union); the content of your licks is never transmitted.

11. Changes to these terms

Alexandre Paul may update these terms at any time. The most recent version is published on this page. Continued use of the App after changes constitutes acceptance of the new terms.

12. Governing law

These terms are governed by French law, subject to mandatory consumer protection rules. Any dispute falls under the jurisdiction of the competent French courts.
