FAQ
How does Licko work?
Pick a progression and a key: Licko generates a jazz phrase (a lick) and plays it with a bass, drums and piano backing track. Listen to it, play it back on your instrument, transform it, then save it to the notebook to practice it in all 12 keys.
Do I need an account?
No. Licko works with no account and no sign-up.
What is free?
Unlimited phrase generation on the major ii-V-I progression, in all 12 keys, most transformations and one saved lick in the notebook.
What does Licko Premium unlock?
The 8 other harmonic progressions, the "on another progression" transformation, an unlimited notebook and export to MIDI, PDF and MusicXML. Licko Premium is an auto-renewable monthly or yearly subscription, with no free trial.
How do I cancel my subscription?
In iOS Settings, tap your name, then Subscriptions, then Licko. Cancel at least 24 hours before the end of the current period. Refunds are handled by Apple (reportaproblem.apple.com).
I already paid, how do I restore my purchase?
In the app settings, tap "Restore purchases" (or "Restore" on the Premium screen). The subscription is recognized on all your devices signed in with the same Apple Account.
Are my licks synced across my devices?
No. The notebook, settings and progress are stored only on the iPhone where you use Licko, with no iCloud sync. To keep a lick elsewhere, export it (MIDI, PDF or MusicXML).
Is my data shared?
Your licks, settings and progress do not leave your device unless you export a file. Licko sends anonymous usage metrics (screens, actions, app version, device model) to PostHog, hosted in the European Union, to improve the app. No ads, no tracking across apps. Details in the privacy policy.
Does Licko work offline?
Mostly yes: phrase generation, audio and notation run on the device. A connection is needed to buy or restore the subscription, and is used to send the anonymous usage metrics.
How do I export a lick?
From the notebook, pick the licks and the format (MIDI, PDF or MusicXML). The file is created on the iPhone and shared through the iOS share sheet (Files, email, AirDrop, a notation app...). Export is part of Licko Premium.
How do I delete my data?
Delete a lick from the notebook. Uninstalling the app erases all data stored on the device. To delete the usage metrics associated with your device, write to alexandre-paul@outlook.com.
Common issues
I can't hear the backing track
Turn up the iPhone volume during playback. If Bluetooth headphones are connected, make sure they are selected as the audio output.
The app won't open
Force-quit the app and restart your iPhone. Update iOS and Licko from the App Store.
My licks disappeared
Licks are stored only on the device: uninstalling the app or switching iPhones without a device backup erases them.
