Privacy Policy: Licko

1. Summary

Licko is an iOS jazz improvisation trainer. There is no account and no sign-up. Your saved licks, your settings and your progress are stored only on your iPhone, with no iCloud sync, and are never sent to a server owned by the developer. The app does send anonymous usage metrics (PostHog, hosted in the European Union) so it can be improved, and it contacts Apple's attribution service once on first launch. Both exchanges are detailed below.

2. Data collected

Licko records the following information. The first three rows stay on your device; the last two describe the only data that leaves it:

Usage metrics are tied to a random identifier generated by the app. No purchase identifier and no Apple account information is associated with it.

3. Data NOT collected

Licko does not collect:

  • Your name, email address or phone number (there is no account)
  • Your advertising identifier (IDFA), and no ad tracking across apps or websites
  • Your GPS location
  • Your contacts, photos, microphone or camera
  • Your payment details (handled by Apple)
  • The content of your licks: usage metrics record that a lick was played or saved, never the notes it contains

4. Permissions

Licko requests no system permission: no camera, no photos, no microphone, no location, no contacts. The backing track (bass, drums, piano) is synthesized on the device from a sound bank bundled with the app.

5. Network

Licko has no server and no account of its own. The app only communicates with:

  • PostHog (usage metrics, hosted in the European Union): events tied to a random identifier, never used for advertising and never sold. No advertising SDK. The app manifest declares NSPrivacyTracking as false.
  • Apple AdServices: on first launch, the app asks Apple for an attribution token and sends it to Apple to learn whether the install came from an Apple Search Ads ad. The token does not contain the IDFA, triggers no App Tracking Transparency (ATT) prompt, and the response is neither stored nor shared.
  • The App Store: purchase, renewal and restoration of the Licko Premium subscription, handled by Apple.

Phrase generation, audio playback and notation run on the device; usage metrics are sent when a connection is available.

6. Exports

MIDI, PDF and MusicXML exports (Premium feature) are created on your iPhone. They only leave it if you choose to share them through the iOS share sheet (Files, email, AirDrop, a notation app...). Licko has no access to the destination you choose and creates no public link.

7. Subscription

Licko Premium is an auto-renewable subscription handled by Apple through your App Store account. Licko neither receives nor stores any payment data.

8. Backups

Your data may be included in your iPhone's iCloud or Finder backup if you have enabled those iOS features. This is governed by Apple's privacy policy, not by Licko's.

9. Your rights

  • Delete a lick from the notebook at any time in the app
  • Delete all local data by uninstalling the app
  • Request deletion of the usage metrics associated with your device by writing to alexandre-paul@outlook.com

10. Legal basis and processors (GDPR)

Usage metrics rely on the developer's legitimate interest in improving the app. The processors are PostHog (usage analytics, hosted in the European Union) and Apple (AdServices attribution, App Store). You can object to this processing or exercise your rights of access and erasure at the address below.

11. Children

Licko is meant for musicians of all ages and does not specifically target children. No data that identifies a user is collected.

12. Compliance

The app's PrivacyInfo.xcprivacy manifest declares the collection of product interaction data for analytics, not linked to your identity and without tracking.

13. Changes

This policy may be updated to reflect changes in the app or in regulations. The date at the top of this document is then revised.
